An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study of Western Expansion during the 19th Century During the 1800's the United States pushed across the continent to fulfill its manifest destiny. The explorers, mountain men, soldiers, and pioneers fought, bought, and stole to gain new territory. Advances in technology lead to improvements in farming, transportation, and daily life and lead to the Industrial Revolution. The nation's culture expanded to include the now classic American icons of pioneers, cowboys, and mountain men, and the working woman.
