An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Research Unit exploring compassion and its impact on our lives today through the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. When Elvis sang, "Walk a mile in my shoes," he reiterated Atticus Finch's lessons on compassion in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Even in our global world, we are often indifferent to the needs of others. Thus, it is particularly important for teenagers to understand the importance of compassion as they come of age. This unit will explore how To Kill a Mockingbird illustrates the theme of compassion and the need to understand and appreciate Diversity.
