A Trail of Trials on the Way to Oregon
An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on the Oregon Trail. Migration to settle new territory has been an integral part of human history. One of the most significant migrations in US history was and is the migration west. This interdisciplinary/integrated thematic unit on the Overland Trail is designed to give students an overview of the causes, problems, and final outcomes of migrations. Interactions of settlers with the Native Americans, hardships associated with the migration and the requirements for change in the settlers are also included. Through this interdisciplinary unit students will learn about linear equations, graphing, human interactions, various medical issues, government and organization, fine arts, and other cultural elements of the time and their implications today.
