An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on the Alaskan Gold Rush for American History students The end of the 19th century found many Americans living in a depression. People found the opportunity to fulfill their American Dream of becoming rich by panning for gold in Alaska. This unit on the Alaskan Gold Rush explores the historical background of the turn-of-the-century America, the lure of gold in the north, and the adventurous spirit of those who were drawn to seek fortune in Alaska.
