An Integrated/Interdisciplinary Thematic Unit of Study on Genetics. Every living thing has traits inherited from its parents. People did not understand how traits were passed from parent to offspring until Gregor Mendel began his experiments with pea plants. Today, with the mapping of the Human Genome and other advances in DNA research, we are able to take a closer look at human inheritance, do research in human genetic disorders, and solve crimes by looking at the DNA fingerprints.
