An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on Monetary Systems and the Stock Market, the Economic Systems of the world, and the statistics involved in studying and understanding them or the 3 S's: Stocks, Systems and Statistics. This unit presents a history of isms that have helped shape the world as we know it. Capitalism and the free enterprise system are the heart and soul of our market economy, including knowledge of the stock market and monetary policy. Students need to understand how other countries are changing to this system. Essential concepts are capitalism, free enterprise, and individual freedoms. Interwoven with the economics is the study of statistics, primarily the study of data analysis. Data analysis is an important skill in today's society. Students need to be able to collect, organize, graph, interpret and predict data as well as be able to check the validity of data in order to be better consumers and citizens of the world.
