Conquering the Aztec

An interdisciplinary thematic approach to Cortez's conquest of Mexico and its indigenous peoples This unit was developed to teach middle school students about successful conquest of the Americas as a central event which shaped the of present day North and Central America. This unit is designed to give students an understanding of Spanish imperialism and its enduring impact on Central and North America. Students will also develop an appreciation for the sophistication of Central American Indian culuture and will make active connections between the Spanish conquest and modern day capitalism and imperialism.
