The period between 1880 and 1920 is important because the influx of many ethnic groups altered the look, sound, and even the tastes of America. Our nation's values hold that this Diversity is our strength an dthe key to our vitality. Therefore, it is crucial that student recognize and protect our nation's Diversity. This interdisciplinary/ integrated unit is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the reasons for various immigrant waves, the resulting conflicts and contributions, the governmental and cultural responses, andthe process of "Americanization."
