A Secondary School Integrated, Interdisciplinary Unit Using Homer's Odyssey As a Metaphor For the Rise and Fall of the Balkan Peninsula and Eastern Europe An examination of Eastern Europe and the Balkan Peninsula opens a fascinating door to mystery, intrigue, inquiry, and exploration. Becuase these civilizations represent the foudation upon which modern civilization has been built, learning the history and culture of this region enables students to identify with the past while connecting it with the present. The circumstances existing in Eastern Europe today are the result of events over time. Students will recognize that the happenings in a country's present clearly may perdict its future.
