From Melting Pot to Salad Bowl

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit Examining Diversity Including Building Tolerance, Harmony, and Unity. Garden City is a rural community which faces the challenges of a metropolitan community where the minority population is the majority. The challenges of this ethnic Diversity are reflected and magnified by the high school population where Diversity issues include ethnicity, gender, learning, personality, and developmental Diversity. We need to preserve the traditions of America and yet support the heritage of the family units. This unit will provide opportunities for students to learn the life skill of appreciating and cooperating with a diverse group.
