A Cross Curricular Thematic Unit on the Animal Kingdom for 2nd grade. As Animals ourselves, it is crucial for human beings to understand the Diversity of animal life and how other animals are important to us. In this unit, students learn how ot classify animals; ho animals are adapted to their habitats; how animals help one another; endangereed and extinct animal species; and the function of zoos. This is a literature-based science unit that has been designed specifically for use with the Macmillan McGraw-Hill Spotlight Literacy, second-grade level reading series. However, the unit can be taught independent of the series as well.
