Therefore, equality is a concept inherent to our society. The United States is a melting pot of a myriad of people from different races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds; however, each American is guaranteed equality under the Constitution. The reality of this equality has long been debated. This unit is designed to give students a basic understanding of the concept of equality. Also, students will examine how society has dealt with struggles for equality and gain an understanding of the factors that affect equality.
