From the Fall Line... Stuck in the Midlands with You!! To the Coastline
An Integrated, Interdisciplinary Thematic Study of the Midlands Region of South Carolina By studying the natural environment of the South Carolina Midlands, students will understand transition that took place between the Low Country and the Up Country. The standards of Time, Continuity, and Change (History): Power, Authority, and Governance (Government/ Political Science): People, Places, and Environments (Geography); and Production, Distribution and Consumption (Economics) are reflected throughout this unit. By exploring fossils and other scientific clues, students will discuss the movement of the old coast (the Fall Line) to the coastal characteristics in the Sandhills of the Midlands to its present location. They will also have a greater understanding of the impact of humans on the environment as well as ways to protect and preserve it.
