From the Garden of Eden to the Rose Garden: Women Seeking Knowledge and Power

  • $5.50

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Humanities Unit for Grades/Level 9-12. Relationships between men and women, adversarial and otherwise, are prolifically reflected in the humanities. Poetry, prose, art, music, and drama are filled with descriptions of the "battle of the sexes" or "the war of the roses": women and men in conflicts over rights of inheritance, rights of expression, rights of commerce, reproductive rights, and even the right to be seen or to exist.

Artists have alluded to these archetypical conflicts through the centuries. In order for students to process the nuances of literature and the arts, these conflicts must be explored through the lenses of historical and cultural contexts.
