Getting off to a good start with all the right stuff.
The interdisciplinary/integrated unit is designed to give students an introduction to high school. As students begin the new adventure of high school it is necessary to explore, develop, apply, and evaluate the norms which govern behavior in the affective and academic realms in the areas of math, science, geography, language arts. These new skills will smooth the waters of transition and set the students sailing through their next four years. The anchor of this thematic unit is the book Around the World in Eighty Days, which serves as a metaphor of their lives as ninth graders. The ultimate content of this unit is for students to learn and/or reflect on the skills they possess in order to evaluate what competencies they need in order to navigate through the rigors and challenges of high school. Each content speciality teacher will teach the "rules" of their content so students will be able to "navigate" those specific disciplines with the rules of passage.
