An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on the History of Ancient Greece and Rome and the influence of Mythology The history of Greece and Rome is important because there is so much in today's society that can be traced back to the Greeks and Romans. For example, Humanism, the belief in the supreme importance of man, spread from Greece to Rome and became the over-riding belief of Western Civilization. Classical mythology chronicles these concepts by giving us storied examples that teach the beliefs, values, customs, and culture of the Greek and Roman people. To truly comprehend these civilizations, we should have an understanding of these myths.
