An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on How African American culture has influenced and contributed to American History. Understanding the past history of the hardships of African Americans in the United States is paramount to understanding and appreciating the freedoms of African Americans today. The contributions of the African American culture and how they have shaped our present society is important to understanding that our society today is based on multicultural traditions that shape today's norm.
