An integrated, interdisciplinary thematic unit on the American Revolution for fourth grade Virginia played a major role in the American Revolution. In this unit, students will explain the economic, social, and political life or the Virginia colony with emphasis on reasons for, and Virginia's role in, the American Revolution. The students will describe the backgrounds, motivations, and contributions of prominent Virginians to the revolutionary era. They will also understand that early documents established basic freedoms for Virginians and Americans. To further understand life during this period, students will explain the significance of plants to the Virginia colonists during the American Revolution.
