An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit exploring Hamlet's medieval world and 20th century America The works of William Shakespeare explore the human condition. Hamlet is significant to study because it exposes the reader to timeless and universal themes; loyalty and betrayal, revenge and forgiveness, crime and punishment, political power and their abuses, family dynamics and the political, social and economical inequities based upon gender. Students who study Hamlet will to identify and understand these human motivations and discover they are present throughout history and occur in all cultures.
