An interdisciplinary unit on animal classification Grade 2 Children have a natural curiosity and interest in the animal kingdom. It is essential that students identify common and distinguishing characteristics of animals and understand that those characteristics are used to group them. Often students believe that animals choose their environments. Therefore, the purpose of this unit is to teach students that animal characteristics and structures have enabled animals to adapt to their environment for survival.
