An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study on the 'Affections' of Musical Anthems and Songs. By studying music designed to reflect a nation's pride and/or history, students will gain an understanding of how music can serve as a "snapshot" of society, depicting life as it was lived seen through the eyes of the musician. Comparisons of music from around the globe will provide a glimpse of histories similar and quite different from our own as well as differing mores, values, and societal norms. Also, students will study the musical theory behind composition that allows a musician to manipulate, or trigger, the emotions and senses: pride, happiness, sadness, humor, anger, nostalgia, to name a few. Content Standards for the State of Alaska in the areas of Government/Citizenship, History, Technology and the Arts will be emphasized.
