If I Only Had A Brain, An Id, and Ego . . .
An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Middle School Unit on Psychology Students will come to understand themselves and others better after an integrated, thematic study of psychology and brain functions. This study allows students to understand the importance of heredity, environment, perception, learning, and creativity in shaping their personalities. Since the area of psychology is exciting and new to middle schoolers, exploring emotions, mental health, and conflict resolution strategies is the gateway to development of responsible decision-making skills. Students will gain self-control and increased choice in regard to their behavior and interpersonal relationships. Furthermore, through the study of the physiology of the brain, students will develop an appreciation for differences in learning styles. This will enable students to appreciate other's differences (diversities).
