Is War the Only Answer?

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit for The Fighting Ground by Avi with an emphasis on the Revolutionary War. As we look at the different causes for conflict in the issues surrounding the Revolutionary War, the decisions we make can be personal. In this unit we will look at the historical events leading up to the Revolutionary War and use literature to follow a characterês role and decision to go to war. Each topic helps to understand the forces behind the decision to go to war. The Fighting Ground by Avi is historical fiction that follows the character as he seeks out his decision to go to war or not. In literature, the point of view, main idea, setting, plot (rising action, climax, falling action), conflict, and theme will be incorporated to help with literary element efficiency.
