It's Literary Elements, My Dear Watson or Hunting for the elements of Literature in the Works of the Masters

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on Elements of Literature found in the short stories of master authors. To understand literature, students should have knowledge of literary elements and how they are used in the development of a literary work. Using selected short stories, the class will discover obvious differences in characters, plots, and settings which will lead to further exploration of other literary elements such as voice and style, tone and mood, and point of view. These elements will be analyzed to show how the author used these elements to create a work that captured an audience.
