Kansas, The Sunflower State

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit for figted/Talented students examining the settlement and development of Kansas This unit employs an integrated, thematic approach for fourth and fifth grade gifted and talented students to study the settlement and development of Kansas. Students who reside within its boundaries must be cognizant of the state's complexity to fully participate as citizens. Students will investigate the historical, cultural, philosophical, geographical, and technological differences and similarities of various regions. This unit studies early history, counties, urban and rural areas, topographical features, natural resources, and ethnic Diversity.
