  • $5.50

An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study of Chocolate. This Chocolate unit is important because the evolution of chocolate from a ceremonial sacrifice to a treat enjoyed the world over reflects the growth of the world from isolated, compartmentalized societies to a world that is integrated and globalized. In this unit, students will gain awareness of the history of chocolate and its impact on society today. Students will evaluate the production of chocolate from seed to candy bar and the methods by which it is harvested and manufactured. Students will understand the need for preservation and conservation of the rainforest; the only place cacao trees grow. Students will develop an understanding of how the evolution of chocolate has impacted industry, commerce, culture, society, and technology in the modern world.
