An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on animal classification, characteristics, and habitats. Animals are found all over the world. When children observe animals in their surroundings, distinguishing characteristics can be found. These characteristics are essential to classify animals into their own unique groups. It is also important for students to understand that animal characteristics help them adapt to the environments in which they live; and how we as humans can protect, preserve, and use animals to gain a better insight into their lives.
