An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on the culture and contributions of the Islamic Empire. Knowledge of the Islamic culture and tradition is important because who we are as a human race requires that we know and acknowledge the contributions of great civilizations before us. The world as we know it is a result of the interactions and exchanges of diverse cultures. Through the study of this unit, students will develop an understanding of and respect for the ideas and beliefs that shaped political, economic, religious and social structures of Islamic culture. The Muslim Empire is known for many great achievements and inventions that are very valuable today. This unit will help students realize how the contributions of the Muslim Empire are as pertinent today as they were in the Middle Ages.
