Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Do Looks Really Matter At All? The Ugly Duckling
An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on Character Education Through the Study of The Summer of the Swans. Through the study and investigation of the Newbery Award winning novel, The Summer of the Swans, by Betsy Byars, students will explore the awkwardness of adolescence through the eyes of a young girl. The themes such as: self-image, struggle/conflict, family crisis, friendship, and tolerance of differences/handicaps are prevalent in the novel.
