An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study of the Elements of Culture in Latin America, South America and the Caribbean. Latin American culture extends beyond the stereotypes many students associate with the region. Modern Latinos, often mestizos, are still reconciling their Indian heritage with their European roots. Latin America's history and struggles raise social issues that are experienced by individuals worldwide. For the U.S. student, Latino faces are becoming more visible and their voices more audible as they find success in the U.S. entertainment industry and homes in U.S. communities. The current population trends throughout the U.S. demand that we become proactive in understanding, respecting and appreciating our Latino neighbors and the rich history of their culture.
