An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Approach to the Stock Market for Secondary Students A study and understanding of the stock market is important in that the stock market is a good measure of the health of the national and now global economy. It might be called the "pulse" of the heart of the economy. Looking at the historical perspectives of the stock market gives a view of how global events and sometimes local events effect the overall economic health of a nation. This unit will create a real world example of how individual citizens contribute to the nation's GNP by investing in the stock market. A symbiotic relationship develops when these citizens profit from their investments, thus teaching students the foundations of our market economy where a myriad of variables determine the success or failure of business ventures, students will then realize the benefits of prudent financial planning as it effects our nation and themselves.
