An Integrated, Interdisciplinary unti examining the rich culture of Ancient Greece, from arts to smarts, and myths, to realities. This unit will focus on the myths and legends of Ancient Greece, which were passed down orally from generation to generation. The study of these myths will help students understand the universality of experiences of all peoples, and the direct correlation and influence of an ancient culture's literature, philosophy, government, art and architecture to our world today. The myths and legends studied will stimulate students to think about and discuss symbols, values and their relevance to contemporary society. This unit will introduce students to diverse cultural backgrounds and will build an understanding and respect for people of different backgrounds. Students will also become aware of the pervasion of mythological themes throughout music, art, literature, science and social studies. This unit is also important as it addresses the Sunshine State Standards for literature, writing and reading.
