On the boat again...I can't wait to get on the boat again...

Homer's The Odyssey written in the 700s B.C. recounts the adventures of its hero, Odysseus during his return from the Trojan War to his home on the Greek Island of Ithaca. This integrated, interdisciplinary thematic unit provides a literary study of Homer's great epic poem and focuses on the concept and importance of the hero and his journey through core themes of personal development, including communication, moral behavior, respect, cooperation and determination.
The hero motif crosses all cultural and generational lines. The idea of a metaphoric and literal journey of a hero that has been translated and transformed across other media and historical and cultural lines will help the student understand the forces that influence one's decisions and ultimately the directions of life's journeys.
