An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study of the First American Thanksgiving It is important that kindergartners become aware of United States customs and holidays. Students will gain an understanding of how the Pilgrims were able to survive their first harsh year in the New World through the help of the native inhabitants despite cultural and spiritual differences. In the spirit of friendship and gratitude the Pilgrims held a feast to thank the Indians for helping them acclimate to the New World.
