An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study of Genetics for Middle School Students This unit employs an integrated, thematic approach for middle school students to study genetics and how a person can be affected by heredity, geography, and evolution. The study will follow a genetic trait through the family tree, i.e. blue eyes, brown eyes, Down's Syndrome, or breast cancer. Students will gain insight into who they are internally and externally. The same laws that govern human traits govern all living things. Experiments with genetic engineering leads us to hope for treatment in preventing and correcting genetic disorders and aid in producing plants that are disease-resistant and produce an increased amount of food.
