An integrated interdisciplinary thematic study focusing upon builders of civilization beginning with the Sumerians Learning to survive is an essential skill for all aspects of life. The interdisciplinary, integrated, thematic unit is designed to teach students how ancient civilizations began and the connections they can make with these cultures today in the sixth grade. Through the study of cultural universals, students will understand that ingenuity, cooperation, and persistence were important survival skills then, as well as now.
