Smiling Faces, Beautiful Spaces: We Have Friends in Low Places
An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Study of the South Carolina Low Country The Lowcountry of South Carolina has had a key role in influencing the history and development of the state from the time of the Native Americans through the present day. As citizens of the Soth Carolina Lowcountry, our students are all affected by the geography, history, and culture of the region. This interdisciplinary/integrated unit is designed to help students identify and appreciate the unique geographical, cultural, and historical aspects of the Lowcountry, and to recognize how these affect their daily lives. Students will also come to recognize their own part in creating what will be the history of the Lowcountry, and to claim responsibility for preserving the customs, traditions, resources, and beauty of this special place.
