An Integrated, Interdisciplinary Thematic Unit on the Impact of U.S. Westward Expansion on Indigenous Cultures. This unit is important because it illustrates the failure of governments to respond to change, explores the variances in world outlook, concepts of ownership, and use of natural resourcs. Disillusion results in dominace of a culture resulting in the loss of the unique qualities of a culture through contamination. It illustrates the use of "so called" higher mandates to disguise economic motives and make exploration more palatable.
