That's All Folks... Tales the tall and the short of it.
An integrated, interdisciplinary middle school unit on the American Folklore. Folktales are based on real Americans and their experiences during the development of our culture. Folklore gives these people and events a place in history and helps to explain the American culture. The students will look at and learn to identify the structure of the traditional American folktale and the nuances of the developing American culture that created it. Finally other examples of the folktale and the larger than life heroes they generate will be introduced. Such examples will include: modern day folk heroes, urban legends, and similar stories found in other cultures.
