The Invention Dimension Convention
An Integrated, Interdisciplinary Scientific, Literary and Economic Study of simple machines. With the fast paced advancement of technology in our culture, job focus has shifted from labor-intensive work to product driven work. It is important for students to see the relationships between cost effective products, vision, research, production, marketing, and sales. This unit will begin with the students studying simple machines and their use and need in the "real world" and finish with the students creating their own complex machine/invention based on a researched marketing need. They will also survey fellow students to ensure their invention becomes a marketing success.
This unit integrates science benchmarks with economics, literature, and non-fiction writing. The students will be researching invention successes and failures, analyzing reasons for the successes and failures, determining a need for a product, creating the product, and market for success.
