An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic, Standards-based Unit on Communities Second graders are beginning to explore their world. Naturally, this starts in their neighborhoods and communities. As they begin to learn more about the world around them, it will be important for them to know about how people behave in the community. They will need to be aware of rules and laws, cultural Diversity including respect and tolerance. They will also need to know about how people live and work in the community including jobs, transportation, and recreation.
