These Are The Times That Try Men's Souls...OR Is Your Flag Beginning to Sag

An integrated, interdisciplinary, thematic unit of the discovery and the creation of an American identity from the establishment of Colonial governments to the present. According to the Texas Curriculum Guide for American History, 8th grade students will understand the birth of a nation from exploration to the Civil War. After the Revolutionary War, the American identity was created to unite and define a spirit unique to America as a new and independent country. This American patriotic spirit has diminished. By understanding the beginnings of American patriotism, students will be able to sustain, create, and redefine the American identity to instill America pride in our future citizens.
