An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on the Influence of Ancient Egyptian Culture on Modern Society About 4000 B.C., civilizations began to develop in villages along the banks of rivers. These rivers provided the people with water, food, and a means of transportation and trade. From the writings and the artifacts that have been uncovered, archaeologists can conclude that these civilizations valued family, work, recreation, religion, and art. The daily lives of these early people mark the beginning of the civilization that we experience today.
