Wanted: Dead or Alive - The Wolf: Social Villain or Cultural Hero?

An integrated, interdisciplinary unit on Wolves for 7th grade The wolf has often been labeled as a villain in literature as well as in society. This negative attitude has led to its near extinction. Recent reintroduction of wolves has led to many debates o the economic and ethical impact of this animal on humans. This integrated, interdisciplinary unit exposes students to the literature, scientific background, and history of wolves. After studying this unit, students will understand both the influence that the perception of the animal has on cultures and the influence that cultures have on the perception of an animal.
