An Integrated, Interdisciplinary, Thematic Unit on the Chemical Mysteries of Dihydrogen Monoxide. Water is a natural resource that is essential for life on our planet. The importance of water influences many aspects of human activity. Human actions have placed a strain on water supply and have left the global society in a conundrum. This thematic unit will move from general societal issues of water to developing more traditional chemical concepts. Students will explore the properties of matter, nomenclature, chemical formulas, bonding, solution chemistry, solubility, heavy metals, pH, acids and bases, separation techniques, nuclear chemistry as an energy source, examine the impact of pollution and water purification.
